Freedom of Speech

Image
Freedom is the basic right of not only every human being but for every living being. Even if the cage is golden, it is a cage. There have been wars, struggles and protests just to gain what is so precious - freedom. Now when one acquires freedom, many aspects are added to it. One important side of it is the freedom of speech. Speech in itself is so important that it can make and destroy relations with any one. So when we are gifted with the freedom of speech, how to handle it comes the next big question. I have observed, (again it's my observation - may be true or may not be), that on the name of free speech people take the liberty to say anything, anywhere and to anyone. In the so-called debates on national television, on social media, etc. I have seen people crossing the limits. Now, what is the limit? As per the generation I belong to, we have been trained and taught to always respect others on basis of age, position and also their opinion. This is important. Just like we value ...

Kintsugi

Image
'Kintsugi' is a word that I accidentally jumped upon, and as my nature always persuades me to dig into new words, I researched on this one too. Amazed by the theory it represents, I decided to share it with all of you, who spare few minutes to read my post. Kintsugi means "to join with gold". Its roots lie in the Japanese culture and is a practice that has been in this rich culture for more than 500 years now. It won't be an exaggeration if I call it an art. The word Kintsugi comes from the Japanese Kin (gold) and Tsugi (join), and therefore literally means: golden joinery. The art of Kintsugi is called Kintsukuroi, meaning “mending with gold”.  In Kintsugi, if you accidentally break any piece of pottery (ceramics), it is joined using gold. It is a patient procedure. The restoration will take upto three months. The broken pieces are joined together using lacquer (the sap of the lacquer tree used as a varnish) and allowed to dry. Later gold is run through the cra...

Superstitions

Image
Superstitions - I often wonder whether all of them are really illogical. I have heard many beliefs from different people. However, sometimes I feel not all beliefs need be pushed away deeming to be unnecessary and illogical. The reason for this is that the superstitions, as they are known as, have been framed and passed on generation to generation since years ago. I am not an advocate of superstitions, but there is always the question why someone would have said something like that or wanted people to behave in a certain manner. For example, the superstition like, one should not stitch at night. Scientifically could it be linked to lack of natural light at night and absence of very good options of artificial light except a small lamp or lantern in those days. Usage of needles, buttons etc. in little-to-no light might lead to small accidents like getting pricked or even the small buttons or hooks being misplaced to cause mishaps. Another superstition to not sit on the threshold at d...

Goodness

Image
It is often seen that beautiful things are found in unusual places like a beautiful Lotus in muddy waters, diamonds deep under the Earth's crust, a pearl hidden in the shell under the sea and so on. This is a reference I am forced to make today because I too happened to find some rare quality in an unusual place. Yesterday, while watching the episode of the popular KBC (Kaun Banega Crorepati) , I noticed that contrary to the common belief that goodness is slowly eradicating I found a lot of it at one place - that is this episode of KBC. A humble player with a background more humble than him plays his way to the dream prize money of 1 crore but while he travels carefully and diligently, he has this army of people known and unknown cheering and praying for him in the studio and homes including me. This quality is indeed appreciable because the prayers that are going from the depths of hearts of people who have known this person just by a brief introduction of not more than five minut...
