Mind and Body

Health is Wealth - a very old saying that is true to the core. Long back, health meant only Physical wellbeing, but slowly we discovered that Health is also mental well-being and that the mind and body are deeply connected.

I have met different types of people - few exist in our families itself. However let me be specific on what criteria am I classifying these people. This time, our classification is based on how they react on being sick.

We have type 1 - who believe that body is the greatest healer and it heals with time. There are type 2 - who will wait and watch and will get help only if things worsen. There is type 3 - who will get worried on the warning sign and will immediately seek help.

I belong to the type 3, not because being unwell scares me, but I know being a mother, sister, wife, employee and many others, I can't afford to be unwell. So there is no time to experiment.

On one such occasion, I decided to find a homeopathic solution to my problems. An appointment fixed, and I waited curiously for my turn. It's a small beautiful clinic with all positive vibes. There are beautifully chosen and appropriately placed statues related to feng shui, spirituality, etc. There is a pot with green plants. The plants green and healthy as it should be and even the pot painted red and kept on a stand so as to not soil the floor. Few magazines kept near the benches for patients to read, and this section is separated from the doctor's by a foggy glass partition. On the glass is pasted a quote that reads- Please be patient while the doctor is examining other patient.

There is silence all around - a sweet silence. You know, silences can also have categories - sweet, scary, boring, depressing, etc. This one however a nice one.

I await my turn and finally it comes. The doctor is an experienced, good looking, fashionable lady. The grey locks confirm my trust on this new affair. The session begins and among other questions I am asked which colour I like, what food or weather I prefer and how would I react in typical situations. I answer all of them obediently like a student to a teacher because the glow of age makes me believe she is capable of curing me. Her experienced eyes behind the glasses are reassuring.

She speaks softly and the tone is consoling. At some questions, you break down, but it's okay - she offers you a glass of water. The session continues for over an hour. It felt good. A lot of relief. It seemed as if half of your physical illness is already sorted. She then calls her compounder (a middle-aged lady) to prepare the medicine.

I am explained how to take the medicine and the first dose is offered by her - she takes those tiny white pearls of homeopathic medicine in the cap of bottle of medicine, puts it close to her heart, prays something and puts it in my mouth. The whole experience - divine.

After all this, when I returned home and relaxed, I kept thinking about the various questions. I realised that the questions clearly indicate how our mind and body are connected. It tells how our temperament affects our body. It tells how are thoughts are good or bad for our body.

It is understandable that the mind rests in the body, so how can it be different. Both have to have an impact on one another. So now, the laughter classes, the meditation classes, the yoga techniques, all make sense.

We are not just body, but we are also mind. We need to keep both healthy and fresh to be fit and fine.

Mind and body - the complete us. Take care of both if you love yourself which you must.
