Music

Words may not be enough to speak about this universal language - MUSIC. Not exaggerated, it is a medium of connection between all living beings even plants. There have been experiments providing proofs of plants growing better and patients healing faster with this magic called music.

Not only physical but music has an effect mentally, emotionally and even spiritually. May be that's why when humans tried to connect with the Almighty sang hymns and prayers. What more can one ask for from this magical potion that nourishes mind, body and soul.

Often one has observed that when sad you feel to listen to music that matches your sadness, and when happy, we switch to joyful ones. However, if you wish to use this music as a remedy try the vice versa. If sad, listen to joyful chirpy music and see how it elevates your mood. Loads of work - switch on some favourite music and work would be done with ease. Whatever I said so far must have been known to many.

However, this topic came to my mind very recently. In India, the festival of 'Uttarayan' is important. It is celebrated in different names all round the country that marks the movement of sun towards the north pole. A significant occurence that occurs on January 14 every year, and after this, a period of auspicious time begins, which means all good things like marriages, purchase of property, etc can be begun after this.

So now is the season of auspicious beginnings. Recently I saw a marriage procession. The road was occupied by the groom in a beautiful horse-drawn carriage and escorted by the near and dear ones of the groom. Everyone dancing to the music of the band that leads the procession. The friends and family dance while the procession moves forward slowly, and I wait in my car for the road to clear. There are people accompanying the groom in their best dresses and jwellery. A pretty-looking and eye-catching scene to watch though an hindrance to many wishing to reach somewhere on time but blocked due to this personal fervour.

So with no other option, I wait. Music once again captivated and for few minutes at least you forget you are stuck in this place and enjoy. However, in middle of all this glamour, my attention is caught by a boy in dirty, ragged tshirt and shorts. The clothes are so dirty that you cannot figure out what colour would it have been originally. Somehow, he too is a part of this procession. Hardly 8-10 years old, the boy dances to the music played by the marriage band and probably most enthusiastically. I wonder at the sight I was witnessing. The boy follows the procession to quite some distance and slowly the procession is out of sight and music has faded. I start moving wondering how far the boy might have gone. Slowly driving past the crowd, suddenly I see the boy near a dump of waste picking up plastic bottles and other waste useful to him. He dumps his carefully picked pieces in a bag that looks shabbier than him.

I cannot believe that it is the same boy who was dancing a few moments back as if he is the most joyful person on earth. I realise that he was just a temporary participant in somebody else's joy and probably the music was the reason that gave this uninvited guest the short-term joy. Few moments of changed life. Music once again wrapping everyone around it in joy forgetting the woes of life and situations.

Music once again reiterating its effect on all. Use it to the best of your requirements. When this world is divided into tiny fragments on the name of place, gender, religion, caste, colour and many others, let this gift of God - MUSIC bind everyone together.

Take care

Regards
