THE WATCH SHOP

Recently, I had been to a watch shop to get a watch of mine repaired.  I was asked to wait for some time while my watch is being repaired.  There are two watchmakers doing their job meticulously.  One of them is a young man while the other is an old man.  The young man asks for suggestions and guidance from the old man time to time.  It seems he is learning the art while the old gentleman is a master of it.  Experience is the greatest teacher.  The walls of the shop are full of different clocks.  Different sizes, different designs but finally doing the work of showing time.  Whatever shape or size they come in they are known for the work they do - showing accurate time.

Sitting on the bench provided to wait, I was just observing how there was pin drop silence in the shop with only ticking of the watches which was so prominent due to the silence in the shop that is sometimes broken by a customer walking in.  Otherwise everyone is engaged in their work deeply as this is something that requires deep concentration and observation.  The machines that they are dealing with are miniatures and hence the task is more challenging.

When I was looking around, I saw few watches that are not ticking and have stopped moving.  However, there are other watches adjacent to it that are functional.  It reminds me that time does not wait for anyone.  It is only that the representation of time that we have made has stopped, but the wheel of time is constantly moving without halting for a fraction of second.  It also reminds me that whatever the looks are - big, small, attractive or simple, the thing will be known for only the work it does -that is showing time and precisely accurate time. Is it not true for us also? Whatever said and done, one is finally known for the work he/she does.  That is why probably it is said - Work speaks for itself.

Just being there in the watch shop for some time reminded me of two important things in life- Time waits for none and Your work will speak for itself.
