Words
Human beings often devalue things which are received easily and effortlessly. There are so many things that we get in our lives by the grace of God, parents, friends, relatives or anyone else. These are the things that we have procured with zero effort. Therefore, these things are often the victims of neglect. We feel some of the things are our right, some we got because we deserved it, some are the results of some relationships and most of the time we don't even realize the value or worth of these things. For example - LIFE, we all take it for granted, abuse it, neglect it and ignore it multiple times. The most heinous crime in the world - Suicide is a result of this neglect towards the most wonderful gift from God - LIFE. I call suicide as the worst of crimes because in this you hurt the ones who were once closest to you. You leave behind a never-filling sea of agony, pain and distress where the ones left behind by their beloved, who chose to commit suicide, keep thinking for the rest of their lives as to where did they go wrong. All other crimes are a result of hatred but this is one where the victim is not who committed the crime of suicide but they are the ones who made the grave mistake of loving and trusting that person so much that they are left alone to burn in the hell of pain.
Human beings are such. They always forget to value valuable things. One other gift is the gift of words. A gift that is unique to us and us alone. Words are so powerful that it can heal a wounded soul, console a grieved heart, and calm a confused mind. Words alone can achieve things beyond our imagination. It can create. It can design. It can plan. It can guide. It can comfort. However, just as everything in this world comes with its negatives as well, words do have their own array of destructive capabilities. Words when used carelessly, ignorantly, un-thoughtfully and un-empathetically can create havoc. Words once spoken cannot be returned. The more pain-giving, the longer it's impact. The imprints of badly used words will remain to time infinite. There is no other abuse worse than verbal abuse because it wounds the heart.
Man acquired this gift of words so easily that most of us still do not know to use it carefully. We most of the time forget how heartbreaking our words can be. We forget that this gift was bestowed on us with an intent of goodness. Good to all.
Man has used this beautiful ensemble of words to be hurtful and disrespectful to others forgetting the fact that once said, words cannot be mended ever.
Empires have been built and destroyed on the power of words. Careers built or crushed just on virtue of words. Words are powerful - we need to be cautious with its use. If our words would have no use, it is better not to allow them to slip out of our mouth. Extreme control on words will be required at all times especially when we are upset or angry. This is important because when our emotions are not in our control and words are told , it might be usually the words we would later regret about.
You say something - won't bring any positive change. You say something - won't bring happiness to any one.
You say something - won't solve your problems.
You say something - could be misunderstood or misinterpreted.
'Think before you speak' is rightly said but I would say Think well and rethink before you say. See your words are calm and soothing. Make your word bank strong and fill it with words that you might like to hear. Do not underestimate the power of words. Use it sparingly and cautiously.
